I’ve been a fan of Barbara Shaum’s leather products ever since I was introduced to them by Sid Mashburn. Her leather sandals are perfect when it hits 70 degrees fahrenheit and look better than flip-flops any day. The story is even better - Barbara (an octogenarian) makes every single pair herself, by hand, in New York’s East Village. And it just so happens I was able to stop by while in New York last month.

On the Street: Johnson Hartig of Libertine
Haven’t you always heard of that stereotype where people in the fashion industry are rude, self-centered, and pretentious? You’ll soon be proven wrong if you get the chance to talk to Libertine’s Creative Director Johnson Hartig. Lizzie and I met Johnson in Charleston this past weekend for Fashion Week and immiedetly saw his generousity, love for life, and down to earth cool. I mean, check out his website.

This past Saturday night, I had the pleasure of attending the final night of Charleston Fashion Week. Of the five finalists that showed their collections, Afriyie Poku took home the prize. The Ghana-born Atlanta (!) based his collection on traditional menswear silhouettes with an “attention to detail that brings it into the modern era.” The self-taught tailor has the opinion that clothes should fit well, but when he use to go to Macy’s, nothing fit him properly and he’d tailor his clothes himself to the fit he desired. All I can say is, how about that leather jacket?!
